My utmost condolences to Mr. Michigan's wife, the rest of his family and his friends. I got to know Mr. Michigan best as our athletic director in my senior year. I was a runner, primarily a miler, who had run between 80-140 miles a week in the summers after my freshman and sophomore years, along with my daily 200 push-ups and 100 sit-ups. However, after my junior year I all but took the summer off and paid the price of it taking until indoor track for me to get back in top condition. I had several talks with Mr. Michigan about checking to see if there were any other races besides our regular schedule since at that point it was nearing my last chance to make an impression on potential colleges. He was very helpful, especially with his clear backing of my goals, whether we could find any extra meets or not. He was one tough character, and he backed that toughness in others when he saw it, or at least that was how it felt to me. I ran into him years later and he enthusiastically told me how much he was enjoying the change of working with the kids at Antrim after being at the high school for so many years. Mr. Michigan was a highly respected man who will surely be missed.
