James R. Alworth Of Point Pleasant And Essex Junction, Vermont, Dies

James R. Alworth, of Point Pleasant, NJ and Essex Junction, Vermont passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 22, 2014.

James was employed as a technician for DirecTV in Vermont. He was a 2008 graduate of Pt. Pleasant Boro High School. James attended North Country Community College in Saranac, NY and then the National Outdoor Leadership School of Lander, Wyoming where he graduated from both the Yukon Summer Semester and the Rocky Mountain Fall Semester where his training included Backpacking, Mountaineering, Whitewater Canoe, Rock climbing, River Travel, and Canyoneering, and earning credits with the University of Utah.

He was a certified New York State Whitewater guide, a Leave No Trace Master and a Wilderness First Responder. He loved spending time in his family Adirondack home.

James was an accomplished outdoorsman and loved sharing time with family and friends snowmobiling, snowboarding, fishing, hiking, ATV riding and 4X4 driving; whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, and motor boating. He was a skilled artist and photographer and won a prize for his Yukon pictures in the NOLS calendar.


He leaves behind his sister, Estee and parents Dr. and Mrs. Robert A. Alworth of Pt. Pleasant, NJ and Johnson City, TN; his grandmother, Gloria Alworth and aunt, Carol Unkert, both of Glen Ride, NJ; aunts and uncles, Dr. Marion Cavallaro and Rick Fromuth, JoAnne and Dennis Guscott, Susan and Gary Johnson, Sally Kalksma, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Visitation will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, with a service at 4:30 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy. 88, Brick. Please make any donations to the National Outdoor Leadership School, 284 Lincoln St., Lander, WY 82528, reference James Alworth.
