Point Beach Man Indicted on Insurance Fraud Charge

Grand juries hand up indictments

A Point Beach man faces an insurance fraud charge after being indicted last week by an Ocean County grand jury.

Richard Swendsen, 60, of New Jersey Avenue, committed at least five acts of insurance fraud from March 17, 2010 to Dec. 7, 2010, the indictment states.

Swendsen allegedly made false or misleading statements on property loss claims to Atlantic States Group Inc., obtaining more than $1,000 in benefits, the indictment states.

Additionally, Swendsen was indicted on a theft charge for allegedly stealing more than $500 from the Lands End Condominium Association from October 2008 to October 2010.

Swendsen was released on a summons.

Grand juries also indicted:

  • Jeffrey D. Bednarick Jr., 19, and Thomas S. Stolz, 20, on a theft charge.

The two Brick residents allegedly stole fishing equipment from a Point Pleasant Beach storage unit on Channel Drive in September, the indictment states. 

Both men were released on summonses.

  • Reynaldo Toro, 34, of Staten Island on a drug charge.

Toro had cocaine in his possession when arrested Aug. 14 in Point Beach, authorities said. He was released on a summons.

  • Robert W. Cornell, 50, of Point Beach on a burglary charge.

Cornell broke into the Pelican Point Motel on Arnold Avenue on Sept. 13, the indictment states. He's lodged in Ocean County Jail on $5,000 bail, 10 percent option allowed.
