Boro Police: Boro Man Throws Metal Trash Can Lid at Sgt.

Boro man arrested on assault, weapons charges

A Point Borough man is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon after allegedly throwing a metal trash can lid at a police sergeant, police said on Tuesday.

William R. Harned, 26, was charged by police who had responded to a call from his roommate reporting that Harned was in a verbal dispute with his girlfriend at Harned's home on Route 88, said Captain Richard Larsen.

Sgt. David Radsniak and Officers Ryan Barker and David Scalabrini responded to Harned's home after the call to police was received at 10:19 p.m. Friday, Larsen said.

"When police arrived and spoke to Harned, he continued to become increasingly agitated and started picking up and breaking his patio furniture," Larsen said. "He picked up the metal lid of a trash can and threw it at Radsniak, who had to duck or it would have hit him."

The officers then took Harned into custody and arrested him and he was transported to Ocean County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. A jail official said early Tuesday afternoon that Harned was still at the jail and that his bail is now $25,000.

Harned had been consuming alcohol, but Larsen said he does not know if he was intoxicated.
