Dive Teams and Police Search a Point Beach Lake, But Find Nothing

Two dive teams, first aid squads, local and state police search Lake of the Lillies for four hours after finding shoes on water's edge

A man's socks, shoes and belt were found on the edge of Lake of the Lillies, prompting dive teams, first aid squads, fire departments and police to do ground and air searches of the area on Sunday morning, but nothing was found, according to police and first aid authorities.

Police said there has been no local missing persons report and do not have more information about why someone may have left their personal items on the water's edge.

That prompted various emergency agencies and local and state police to search the newly-dredged lake and the surrounding area of Point Beach.

At 8:30 a.m. Sunday, members of the dive team from the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, serving Point Beach, Bay Head and Mantoloking, were dispatched to the lake.

Point Beach Fire and Point Borough Fire and First Aid Squad Dive team responded to assist in the search. Point Beach police searched the area around the lake on foot as divers searched the water.

A State Police helicopter did an air search.

The four-hour search done by 50 to 60 emergency workers, many of whom were volunteers working on New Year's Day.

Two Zodiac boats, a paddle board and kayak did a surface search as seven divers did search patterns by walking back and forth attached to a line supervised by Chief Diver Chet Nesley of the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad.
