No serious injuries reported in accident on Arnold Avenue and Route 35 north

One person had minor injuries in a two-car collision at Arnold Avenue and Route 35 North at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad.

Petruzziello said he did not immediately have details available regarding who was at fault, if any other charges were filed, the names of the drivers or other information, but that he may be able to provide more information later in the day.

One car came to rest on the southbound railroad track and had to be towed, Meaney said.

NJ Transit reported that because there is no train service at that time of the morning, there was no interruption in service.

Point Pleasant Beach Fire Chief Mark Drew reported that the fire department had been dispatched at 3:52 a.m., assisted with a fluid spill leaking from one of the vehicles and stood by while the other vehicle was removed from the railroad tracks.

"Once the vehicle was removed from the railroad tracks, crews removed the chain link fencing material that would impede train traffic," Drew said in an email. "New Jersey Transit was notified of our crews working on/near the tracks."

Police said the dispatch call was at 3:50 a.m. and the car was removed about half an hour later.

NJ Transit was planning to send a crew to inspect the tracks and re-install the fencing material, Drew said.

Courtney Carroll, a NJ Transit spokesperson, said a crew repaired a safety gate that had been damaged.

She said NJ Transit will also start repairing a damaged fence on Friday and should be done by Monday or Tuesday. The fence runs along the sidewalk.

This story will be updated if any other details become available.
