Point Beach Cops Look for Man in Attempted Armed Robbery, Carjacking

Victim wasn't injured, police say

Point Pleasant Beach police were still searching Monday morning for a man who they say demanded money and car keys from another man in front of the Green Planet coffee shop on Arnold Avenue Sunday.

Police went to the coffee shop after receiving a 9-1-1 call at about 7:56 a.m., said Detective Patrick Petruzziello. The victim, a 46-year-old male from Washington D.C., reported that while sitting in front of the business, the suspect approached him and pointed a handgun at him demanding his wallet and car keys, Petruzziello said.

"The victim complied, however the suspect ultimately fled the area on foot," said Petruzziello.

The store was open and there were other witnesses inside, and the victim was not injured during the incident, according to police.

Some evidence was recovered in the area, police said, however the firearm was not recovered, and the suspect has yet to be identified by name. Investigators do believe, however, that the suspect is a black male, approximately 6-foot-1, from the East Orange area. Surveillance photos of the suspect are attached to this story.

Police are asking anyone with any information to contact Detective Clint Daniel at 732-892-0500 ext. 160.
