Point Beach Police Suspend Search For Body

Body was wedged between rocks in inlet jetty, but is no longer there

Point Pleasant Beach police have suspended a search for a body this evening near the Manasquan Inlet rock jetty.

It was not yet known if authorities plan to resume the search Monday morning. The gender of the missing person and other details were not available on Sunday night.

The body had been wedged between rocks in the jetty but is no longer there, police said.

Numerous police officers, firefighters and first aid and Ocean County Sheriff's Department personnel were on or near the jetty assisting with the search.

Dive teams from the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad, which serves Point Beach, and from the Point Borough Fire Department, also assisted in the search for more than three hours.

Also, a state police helicopter used a spotlight to search the rough water and a state Marine Police boat searched the inlet.

Dive-team members are also there, helping the emergency personnel.

No further information was available from Point Beach police or other authorities.
