Point Boro Accident Still Under Investigation

Car hit pole on Route 88 and overturned

Police are still investigating an accident that involved a car hitting a utility pole on Route 88 and overturning, said Captain Richard Larsen on Tuesday.

Timothy P. Tarnowski, 22, Brick, told police a mechanical problem with the steering on his black GMC caused him to lose control of the vehicle just west of the Bridge Avenue intersection on Saturday.

He was not injured and no charges have been filed at this point, but the investigation is continuing, Larsen said.

Police were called to the scene of the crash in front of 3211 Route 88 at 3:19 p.m. Saturday.

The pole broke at the base, but remained standing upright because the wires were holding up the broken piece of the pole, Larsen said.

The pole was replaced by Jersey Central Power and Light, while police handled traffic control on the busy street, Larsen said.
