Point Boro Community Watch Asking for Donations for Children's Room in Police Department

Room is for children fleeing domestic violence

Point Borough's Community Watch is asking for new or gently-used toys and books for a children's room at the borough police department.

Community Watch, led by the police department, is making improvements to the room which is for children who are fleeing from or dealing with domestic violence situations in their homes.

A couch has been moved into the room to help make it more comfortable for children, said Borough Councilmember Toni DePaola at Tuesday night's council meeting.

"We're trying to make it comfy and cozy in there for children who need to talk to the police," DePaola said.

She said Community Watch, which is led by the police department, is also asking for more residents to volunteer.

Volunteers help other group members and neighbors to watch for any suspicious activity at each other's homes and businesses and report it to police.

DePaola said Police Lt. Michael Colwell is temporarily filling in for Detective Michelle Hill as the police department liaison to Community Watch.

The next meeting is Sept. 26, when local boy and girl scout troops will attend.

"Hopefully, they'll get their law enforcement badges," DePaola said.

Anyone interested in donating to the children's room or volunteering for Community Watch is asked to call the police department at (732) 892-0060 and ask for Chief Larry Williams.
