Point Man and Brick Man Charged in Wall on Saturday

Drugs charges stem from traffic stop on Route 71

A Point Pleasant man and a Brick man were arrested and charged with heroin possession following a traffic stop on Route 71 in Wall Saturday, police said.

Robert E. Matthews III, 40, of Point Pleasant, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, heroin possession, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic needle and several motor vehicle summonses, following a traffic stop near the Spring Lake Heights boundary around 5:30 p.m. Patrolman James Cadigan was the arresting officer, said Sgt. Joseph Wilbert.


The passenger, Stephen A. McCormack, 40, of Brick, was charged with heroin possession, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Wilbert said.

The pair were taken to Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of bail. Matthews' bail was set at $10,000. McCormack's bail was set at $31,000. Patrolman Edward Lister was the arresting officer, Wilbert said.
