Point Pleasant Borough Man Indicted in Connection with Allegedly Assaulting Two Police Officers

Indictment stems from August arrest

A Point Pleasant Borough man was indicted in connection with allegedly assaulting two local police officers.

David A. Jimenez, 26, of Dellwood Road, was indicted last week on charges of aggravated assaults on Patrolmen Ryan Grohowski and Kevin Aurin on Aug. 26, 2010.

The August incident involved police getting a call from a resident on Maplewood Road who said he heard glass breaking at a neighboring house, said Capt. Richard Larsen.

When Officers Ryan Grohowski and Kevin Aurin arrived at the neighboring house, Jimenez was sitting, but then stood up and started running towards the officers, Larsen said.

"The police said, 'Stop, get on the ground,' but he continued to charge at them, yell and curse and wave his arms in an aggressive manner," Larsen said.

Jimenez refused to get on the ground and was sprayed with pepper spray.

"The two officers wrestled him to the ground and he continued to fight them," Larsen said.

Sgt. Dave Radsniak and Sgt. Lee Downs arrived and helped the two officers get Jimenez under control, Larsen said.

Jimenez was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, including one count for each of the two officers he allegedly assaulted, Larsen said. Those included Radsniak, who sustained minor injuries, and Auren, he said.

Jimenez was also charged with one count of resisting arrest.

When police investigated, they discovered that Jimenez had gone into the house where he had lived a few months prior to the incident and allegedly broke two front windows, Larsen said.

"An ottoman had been thrown through one of them and a Nintendo Wii game had been thrown through another," Larsen said. "There were indications he may have been under the influence of alcohol."

The owner of the home, who police did not identify, signed a waiver of prosecution requesting that no burglary or criminal mischief charges be filed against Jimenez, Larsen said.

Nothing had been stolen from the home, Larsen said.

Jimenez, who was 25 when the incident occurred, was then released on the summonses.
