Point Pleasant Man's Body Found in Long Branch Backyard

Body identified as Michael M. Wells, 56

The body found in a Long Branch backyard this morning has been identified as a 56-year-old Point Pleasant man.

Michael M. Wells was found dead in the backyard of 215 Cleveland Ave. at 7:30 a.m., according to Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Public Information Officer Charlie Webster.

Webster said Wells was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. but that the cause of death has not yet been determined. He said the results of an autopsy will likely be released tomorrow.

Webster could not comment on whether foul play led to Wells' death.

Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

I would hope that we could focus on Mike. This is a tragedy and loss. Mike had an energy that will be missed by his family friends and community. My prayers are that he is at peace and his killer be found and brought to justice.

He was not a commercial fisherman. He worked nearby and had opened the place just before this happened. He was an awesome and caring guy, there is nothing fishy. This is a horrible and tragic event, try and get some actual facts before degrading the memory of a great guy with such an asinine comment.

I'm glad to see the ignorant comments left by someone yesterday were removed. I hope this man rests in peace and they find justice for him and his family. Such a sad world we live in. Nothing but bad news anymore.
