Toms River police have charged a Point Pleasant Borough man in a forgery case and say he may still be involved in similar criminal activity.

After receiving numerous tips based on surveillance photos that were recently released to the media, police charged David Byrnes, 47, whose last known residence was the 3400 Block of Bridge Avenue, with forgery – specifically, using a stolen credit card to make numerous purchases. Bail has been set at $40,000.

He is believed to be in the Toms River or Brick area, said Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

"He frequents the Ocean County Mall and other local retail establishments," said Stocco. "He has also been seen at retail establishments in the Berkley Township section of Holiday City."

The case against Byrnes originated from a report filed with police on Jan. 21 when a 45-year-old female said her credit card had been stolen at either the Walmart store on Route 37 or the CVS store on Bananier Drive during the afternoon that same day.

By 9 p.m. there were 11 fraudulent charges on the card at multiple Wawa stores, Stop and Shop, Shoprite, and gas stations in the Toms River and Brick area.  In addition to general charges, the suspect made eight purchases in the amount of $100 each for Home Depot gift cards, Stocco said.

"We believe that there is a likelihood that he continues to be involved in criminal activity," said Stocco.

Byrnes is described as being 5’7’’ tall and weighing 160 pounds.

Anyone who may know Byrnes' whereabouts or has any other information on the case is being asked to contact Detective Jon Turner at 732-349-0150, extension 1264 or message the department on Facebook.

Grace, about the only job he'll get is sweeping and moping floors and cleaning the toilets for his cell mates in each cell in whatever prison he ends up in after they catch this dirtbag.
