Police Investigating Arrests Made After Suspects Led Police in Chase in Car Loaded with Cocaine

Incident began in Point Pleasant Beach and ended with arrests in Point Pleasant Borough

Police are still investigating the arrests of two suspects who were charged after leading police on a chase through Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant Borough in a car loaded with cocaine, police said Wednesday.

The arrests were made at the Quick Chek parking lot on Route 88 in the borough at 2:43 p.m. April 18, said Lt. Rob Lokerson.

Police reported that while conducting a narcotics investigation on April 18, officers from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Special Operations Group, Point Pleasant Police Department and Point Pleasant Beach Police Department attempted to stop a motor vehicle in the McDonald's parking lot on Richmond Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach.

"The suspect motor vehicle, occupied by two subjects, fled the area taking officers on a low-speed pursuit," police said. " The vehicle traveled onto Route 35 North before taking the jug handle onto Route 35 South, by Goodyear Tire Craft.

"The vehicle then traveled onto Route 88 west into Point Pleasant," police said. "The pursuit ended when the vehicle pulled into the Quick Chek parking lot.

"Officers surrounded the vehicle with guns drawn while conducting the high risk motor vehicle stop," police said. "The two occupants were removed from the vehicle without incident and placed under arrest. 

"A large quantity of cocaine was recovered from the vehicle," police said. "They were transported to the Point Pleasant Police Department for processing and charging. No injuries or damages were sustained during the course of the pursuit and arrest.

"The names are being withheld at this time while collateral investigations are being conducted," police said.

Lokerson also declined to release the genders and hometowns of the suspects, their ages, the specific charges against them and whether they had been transported to Ocean County jail.
