Police: Two Kidnappers Assaulted Woman, Flashed Box Cutter

Brick police are looking for two kidnappers who allegedly assaulted a woman and flashed a box cutter at her.

On January 10, 2014 at approximately 10 a.m., police responded to a residence on Georgia Drive after receiving a report on a kidnapping.

The adult victim, a resident of Essex Drive, was walking through the Lake Riviera section of Brick when she was approached by a white work van with tinted windows, occupied by two white men, police said.

The passenger of the van exited the vehicle, approached the victim, and forced the victim into the van. Once inside the van, the victim stated that she was struck several times in the torso with what was described as a “piece of steel,” police said.

The subject then produced a box cutter.

Shortly thereafter, the victim was able to escape the van as it travelled slowly north on Georgia Drive. The victim then ran to a nearby residence, knocked on the door, and asked the resident to contact police, police said.

The victim described the suspect that pulled her into the van as a white male, wearing a blue navy sweatshirt and black pants.

The driver was described as a white male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and possibly having blonde hair.

The investigation is being conducted by Detective James Burgess of the Brick Township Police Detective Bureau.

Anyone who believes that they may have seen this vehicle or anything related to this incident is asked to contact Detective Burgess at 732-262-1115. They may also contact the Brick Township Police Department directly at 732-262-1100.

Glenn January 11, 2014 at 10:23 AM
Granted a lot was going on with a fatal accident on Beaver Damn Bridge and all, but a kidnapping. What the heck is happening to this town. And, SimonSays, don't be an idiot and turn this into a political argument.

Kidnapping is a serious offense. I hope law enforcement will use every avenue at their disposal to bring these creeps to justice.
Beachie January 11, 2014 at 10:33 AM
i saw something about this yesterday but was waiting for them to release a sketch or photos...

It's always political simon,...just ask any democrat, liberal, or community organizer.

The Asbury Park press reports this was over money....they demanded money from her....hmmm...something smells rotten here.
C January 11, 2014 at 10:53 AM
WMS826....I hate to have to agree with you since this is a very serious incident but I feel the same way you do. It doesn't seem logical. Yes, she was abducted but how the heck did she escape from 2 guys in a van after being struck with a piece of steel? There's more to this story that isn't being reported but living in Brick, we need to know what the story is.

I first heard of this scary story on Ch. 4's news last night around 5:30. They came on with a Breaking News graphic and the headline on the lower third "Woman Kidnapped and Assaulted in Brick, NJ. They had a full report on the Ch.4 11PM news. Didn't see anything online until around 10 PM on NJ.Com. The Patch is late to the game on this story.

There was a press release on the Brick township police Department's facefook page at 5:00 pm yesterday (1/10/2014)

I believe tinted windows, with the exception of officers, were illegal? Anyone seeing a white van with tinted windows should inform authorities immediately! Would be a relief to find these creepy characters and get them out of our community. Also, folks when you have to use windshield wipers you HAVE TO put on your headlights...it's law and common sense.

What ever happened to " the safest town in N.J. " This town is going to hell in a hurry. To bad , I moved here from No. Jersey to raise my family. Time to move.

There HAS to be more to this story. It doesn't add up or make sense.

Something seems very strange here. I actually know someone who was kidnapped just like this story but it was by an ex, ppl don't just do this taking a risk and let the victim just jump out. Unless these two men were looking for someone to rape and abuse there is way more going on here.

This story is off? Who was out walking the neighborhood at 10 am? My neighborhood was a sheet of ice at that time. You couldn't walk at all... I feel like the article is missing big pieces of a puzzle.

It is a shame that people imply that the victim is to blame. Maybe everything is not being put out there so the investigation can proceed. Either way, we should all have cameras so incidents like this get recorded on video to deter the criminals and/or aid police.

When is Ducey going to do something about the crime wave in Brick Twnp? This is out of control. You can' even walk the streets of Lake Riv during the daytime. This never happened when Steve was Mayor.
Beachie January 11, 2014 at 01:34 PM
Simon he just got sworn in,lol you must be on crack! this town is in a mess that was not created over night and can't be undone over night...Give the man a chance worse case you vote him out in the next election.
Erinn Baney January 11, 2014 at 01:43 PM
This isn't a mayoral problem. This is an isolated incident. It was reported to police, so it is now in police hands. All kidnappings, attempted kidnappings, and any other crimes are not preventable all the time. So a mayor cannot have prevented this. Not a political issue.
J.JONES January 11, 2014 at 01:46 PM
Simon ..he said 100 day plan and he will make sure it happens ..?? but first he's going to take care of friends and family..it started with law firm his ex-father in laws and Scarpelli law firm..oh boy ..
oldkodger January 11, 2014 at 01:56 PM
will they ban on all box cutters, they are really sheet rock knives, most contractors in all trades have them
Ryan Meyers January 11, 2014 at 03:29 PM
"Brickneeds help" why would he appoint a "R" law firm to represent the town. Appointments are made to those that agree with the principal of those in power, the key being they're capable of doing the job. Your side did a terrible job according to the voters and has been sidelined, enjoy the bench, until your turn comes around again. Something doesn't seem right with the story, given time the BTPD will put all the pieces together.
WMS826 January 11, 2014 at 05:13 PM
Time to enforce all codes and property maintenance issues with zero tolerance. Push some of this trash out the door or get them to comply and act better if they choose to stay. Is this case a drug issue,
Just saying January 11, 2014 at 07:14 PM
Simonsays aka Steve acropolis , your still a idiot !!
Frank Fatovic January 11, 2014 at 09:25 PM
Let's hope the police find these 2 idiots. As far as Simon, I didn't see your name on last November's ballot for Mayor or Police Chief, of dog catcher. When is your appointment with the Police Chief and the Mayor so you can explain to them how you plan to solve the crime problems in Brick. I'd be interested what your plan is.
Helen De Marco January 11, 2014 at 11:41 PM
this whole story just doesn't seem to be true, there has to be more to it than we are being told, hmmmm????
Speedz January 12, 2014 at 06:44 PM
Unfortunately, I think we're going to be hearing more of these type of stories with heroin becoming such an epidemic in Brick and Toms River. These junkies are going to need to get their money some how even if it means robbing, mugging, or breaking into homes. Ocean County needs to come up with a plan to slow down heroin. I just read a post online on how nonresident crime is going up in Ocean and Monmouth county and one of the reasons stated was drug sales. Scary thinking about what is going on all around us!
