UPDATE: Man Shot Himself In Point Beach As SWAT Team Approached

Robert F. Terry III pulled trigger while on a roof on Arnold Avenue, Point Beach

A 32-year-old Port Monmouth man was involved in a domestic violence incident in Brick before grabbing a cab to Point Beach, climbing onto a downtown roof and shooting himself, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's office.

Robert F. Terry III, 32, Monmouth Ave, is now in critical condition at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, according to Al Della Fave, spokesman for the county prosecutor's office.

As police searched for Terry Wednesday morning, all public schools in Point Borough and Point Beach were put on lock down for about an hour.

The update from Della Fave is as follows:

"The incident began as a domestic violence event on Hooper Avenue in Brick at about 12:30 am Wednesday. Suspect fled that location.  

Suspect was seen in Brick getting into a taxi early this morning. Taxi was heading to train station in Point Pleasant Beach.

Brick Police called Point Beach police at 8:40 am. Suspect was located on foot in the downtown area after a motor vehicle stop on the taxi.  

At about 8:48 am the suspect was in the vicinity of 528 Arnold Ave. Shortly after the suspect is located on the roof of that location. Brick SWAT members gained access to the roof.  

In the presence of the officers, the suspect shot himself in the head with a .25 caliber handgun. Suspect taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in critical condition. Suspect's family notified."
