For more than four decades, people have gone to Six Flags Great Adventure for a day of fun, riding roller coasters, playing boardwalk-style games and taking part in other amusements.

Thirty years ago, a day of fun turned into a day of terror and tragedy. Today marks the 30th anniversary of the fire that took the lives of eight teenagers trapped inside the Haunted Castle attraction on May 11, 1984, according to an article in the Asbury Park Press.

I recently had issues with GA after going there one day and noticing a crapload of safety hazards such as duct tape on the seat of the kiddie swings where it bolts to the bars the help it fly in the air. I reported all of the issues I had there and after one visit on a payment plan they refused to.stop payment so I cancelled my card and now they are threatening to sue me. I refuse to go back there not only because of safety issues, but also because things are always breaking down which worries me more about safety. The people who work in the office were awful. I would rather travel somewhere else then to go back there ever again. I was in the haunted castle the day before the fire too and still went back, but not anymore!

mj I am a neighbor of one of the unionized park electricians that have been employed at Six Flags/GA over 20 years. Knowing that this individual is a representation of a long term Six Flags/GA employee that we would be entrusting our safety to, staying away from that park isn't a bad idea.

30 years and I remember working there like it was yesterday. I was off that day and drove all the way out there to check on my girlfriend who was working. Then I found out she was sent home once the fire started. We had no cell phones!
