Three 17-year-old boys are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with the robbery of a cell phone from a Point Borough High School student out on her lunch break, police said Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred on Old Drift Road, between the high school complex and Dorsett Dock Road, shortly after 11 a.m. Monday.
"As a result of the robbery that occurred on Monday involving the theft of a cellular phone through force, three 17-year-old male juveniles, that reside out of town, were taken into custody," according to a prepared statement from Detective Lt. Adam Picca.
"Detective Ed Miller of the Point Pleasant Police Department charged the juveniles with conspiracy to commit robbery, a second degree crime if committed by an adult," the statement says.
"On Wednesday, all three juveniles were lodged in the Juvenile Detention Center in Toms River pending a detention hearing."
Police did not say the town (or towns) where the three reside. Picca said names and other details cannot be released because they are juveniles.
