Police Seize 1,284 Hits of Heroin, Arrest Suspected Dealers

Loaded, stolen gun and quantity of methadone also found in residence, cops say

Police teamed up to bust two suspected heroin dealers on Friday, seizing 1,284 wax folds of the drug, more than $12,000 in cash, a stolen gun and two cars in the process.

No information was available that would tie the arrest with recent heroin-distribution busts in the Point Pleasant Boro area.

The Toms River Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team and Emergency Service Unit, in cooperation with the Brick Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit executed a court authorized “no knock” search warrant at 2105 Meadowlands Court in the Saratoga section of Toms River at about 6 a.m. Friday morning, Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said.

As a result of the dual agency investigation, he said, 1,284 wax folds of heroin, a quantity of methadone, $12,500 in US currency, a Dodge Durango, a Cadillac and drug paraphernalia were seized from the residence. A loaded .380 Cobra handgun that was reported stolen out of South Carolina was also recovered in the residence.  

A male and a female, both of whom resided at the residence, were arrested.

Reggie Huggins, 29, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute over one half ounce, possession of methadone, possession of methadone with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in the course of committing a drug offense, possession of a firearm as a certain person not to have a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Huggins' bail was set at $250,000 cash.

Cassandra Ortiz, 30, was charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute over one half ounce, possession of methadone and possession of methadone with the intent to distribute. 

Bail for Ortiz was set at $150,000.

The estimated street value of the seized heroin is approximate $13,000, Mastronardy said.
