Two-Car Accident in Point Beach Injures Three

Three people taken to hospitals

Three of the four people in two cars in an accident at Route 35 North and Forman Avenue late Thursday afternoon were injured and taken to hospitals.

Police got the call at 4:08 p.m. and cleared the scene just after 5 p.m.

Didier Villagra, 31, of Belmar, a passenger in one of the cars said the driver of the second car drove west on Forman, pass St. Peter's School, through a stop sign and into Route 35 and the car driven by his friend.

Villagra said, "I told Douglas, 'Wait, wait,' but he couldn't, they were too close."

He said his friend's name is Douglas, but could not remember his last name, that he is about 30 years old and lives in Spring Lake. As he spoke, members of the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad were securing Douglas' neck in a type of neck brace and lifting him onto a stretcher and into an ambulance.

He said they were taking Douglas to Ocean Medical Center in Brick because his back hurt from the accident.

It was not immediately clear if the two victims from the second car, a small red car, were being taken to Ocean Medical or to a different hospital.

Squad members, assisted by the Point Beach Fire Department, removed the two occupants from the red car, onto stretchers and into a waiting ambulance.

Lt. Joseph Michigan said at the scene, as paramedics treated victims and moved them into ambulances, "We don't know the extent of the injuries yet, but they seem stable."

He said police are still investigating the accident and he did not immediately have names or a cause and that no charges have been filed yet.

He said Officer Paschal Drew, who was at the scene, is the lead investigative officer.

Monoc Paramedics also assisted at the scene. Both cars were damaged and towed from the scene.

Police were able to keep one lane of Route 35 North open while they worked the scene.
