Two House Burglaries in Point Pleasant Borough

Police urge residents to lock all doors and windows on houses, cars

Point Pleasant Borough police are urging residents to lock all house windows and doors and report any unknown people in their neighborhoods in the wake of two recent daytime house burglaries.

Police also are reminding residents to lock car doors since most homes and cars illegally entered in recent incidents were unlocked.

Captain Richard Larsen said the two recent house burglaries both involved a suspect, using some sort of tool or instrument, prying open unlocked windows.

He noted that in both burglaries, residents did not even realize at first that the homes had been burglarized.

One incident involved a man entering a home through a window of a home on Rue Cambon.

"He entered through a window on the street side of the house where someone could have seen him," Larsen said.

He said if a neighbor had seen the suspect and reported him, police may have been able to either prevent a burglary from occurring or may have been able to apprehend the suspect.

"We're asking residents to look out for their neighbors and let us know if they see people they don't know around houses," he said. "We don't want residents to go out and question them. But we do want to know about it so we can send an officer to check them out."

In the most recent of the two incidents, police were called at 2:18 p.m. on Tuesday by a resident on Rue Cambon, Larsen said.

The resident, who police are not identifying, reported to police that he first became aware of a potential problem when he returned home at about 2:15 p.m. and noticed a man standing in his side yard.

When the resident questioned him about why he was on his property, the man said he was looking for his lost dog.

When the resident questioned him further, the man fled, jumping over the resident's fence and running away.

A few minutes later, the resident discovered that cash and jewelry were missing from the bedroom and called police.

Larsen said police discovered the window had been pried open.

The man is described as white, about five feet, nine inches tall, with a medium build, in his mid to late 30s, wearing a gray skull cap, with a light-colored goatee.

Another robbery was reported at 8:33 p.m. on Jan. 25 on Riviera Parkway.

The homeowner returned home at about 3:30 p.m. and noticed items had been moved around inside the home, but thought maybe that had been done by one of the other residents.

Later, the resident found out from family members that no one had moved things around and discovered there was jewelry missing from a bedroom.

The window screen had been cut and the the window pried open.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is urged to call borough police at (732) 892-0060.
