Barrella Running as Independent for Point Pleasant Beach Mayor

Nicholas Mazzola running as second Democratic council candidate

Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Vincent Barrella is running for re-election as an independent for the second consecutive year.

Last year, Barrella, a registered Republican, narrowly beat a recall effort and won re-election against two candidates to keep his seat.

Political newcomer Nicholas Mazzola and incumbent Frank Rizzo filed on Friday to run as Democratic candidates for two, three-year council seats in the Nov. 8 election.

The Democrats are not running a candidate for mayor.

The Republican club is running Stephen Reid for mayor and political newcomers Andy Cortes and William Mayer for the two council seats.

Monday was the filing deadline for candidates running on the Republican and Democratic tickets.

Those running as independents have until June 7, primary day, to file with the Ocean County Elections Board to run.
