Hurricane Closures in Red Bank

The borough has taken several steps to protect residents during Hurricane Sandy.

In anticipation of Hurricane Sandy's likely landing on New Jersey's shores Monday, Red Bank has taken several precautions to avoid dangerous situations for borough residents and employees.

According to the borough's website, Red Bank Borough offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday, with essential personnel remaining on hand. Sanitation pickup throughout the borough has also been canceled on Monday and Tuesday.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to hit New Jersey's shores at noon on Monday. It's expected to impact Ocean and Monmouth Counties most directly.

Red Bank's schools - Red Bank Middle School, Red Bank Primary School, Red Bank Charter School - have also been closed both Monday and Tuesday, as has Red Bank Regional High School.

While Red Bank hasn't ordered any voluntary evacuations, unlike Shrewsbury, which announced a voluntary evacuation order Sunday night for residents living in flood-prone areas, residents in low lying areas are asked to make arraignments to stay with family or friends, should a move be necessary.

In addition to borough closures, Red Bank RiverCenter has issued an advisory to all borough businesses to remove outdoor displays as of Sunday afternoon. Residents with outdoor Halloween directions have been asked to bring them indoors as well.

While the borough has not designated any emergency shelters, it is offering Temporary Comfort Stations to residents in need of aid, Mayor Pat Menna reported on his Facebook feed. Red Bank First Aid Squad on Spring Street, the community rooms of the United Methodist Church on Broad Street and the community area of Pilgrim Baptist Church on Shrewsbury Avenue are accepting residents.
