List of Bids for Point Boro Trash and Recycling Collection

Borough council will sign one contract for trash pick-up and a separate contract for recycling

Most of the bids for five-year contracts arrived at Borough Hall on Nov. 21, the day before bids were opened.

In nearly all cases the bid amounts for each of the five years of the contract are different, nearly always increasing each successive year.

However, Suburban Disposal, which current collects the borough's trash, submitted two bids where the first year bids were significantly higher than the bids for subsequent years. Those are for bids involving the use of robo cans, so the initial year's higher amount may be due to the cost of purchasing the cans.

Patch is including only the first year, fifth year and totals in most of the listings, except for the two Suburban bids where the first year is higher than subsequent years.

The trash bid listing begins with Suburban Disposal Inc., which has bid the lowest for the new contract., $212,000 less than it was paid this past year to collect trash in the same way, twice weekly during the summer.

Meadowbrook, which has the current recycling contract, is the first in the list for recycling bids and also bid the lowest for the new contract.

The bid amounts, copied from the bid documents submitted to Borough Hall, are as follows:

TRASH:

Suburban Disposal Inc., 54 Montesano Rd., Fairfield:

1. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks, which are used now, and weekly summer collection: 

First year, $490,000, increasing to $498,000 in fifth year, increasing to $2,466,000.

2. Bid for collection using borough issued robo cans and weekly summer collection:

First year, $439,000, increasing to $447,000 for a total of $2,211,000 for the five years.

3. Bid for collection using contractor-owned robo cans with weekly summer collection:

This was the one of two bids from Suburban, and the only two bids from any contractor, that had a much higher amount, in this case nearly double, for the first year, compared to the four subsequent years of the contract.

First year, $864,000, decreasing to $439,000 in the second and third years, and then increasing to $447,000 in the fourth and fifth years. The total for the five years is $2,636,000.

4. Bid for collection for rear-compacting trucks and twice weekly summer collection (which is done now):

First, second and third years, $524,000, increasing to $532,000 for the fourth and fifth years, with a total of $2,636,000.

The bid of $524,000 is $212,000 less than the $736,000 Suburban was paid this past year to collect trash using rear-compacting trucks, with twice weekly summer collection.

5. Bid for collection using borough robo cans and twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $499,000, increasing to $509,000 for a total of $2,515,000 for the five years.

6. Bid for collection using contractor-owned robo cans and twice weekly summer collection:

This was the second Suburban bid that has a much larger amount in the first year than in subsequent years:

First year, $924,000, to $499,000 in the second and third years and $509,000 in the fourth and fifth years. The total for the five years is $2,940,000.

DeLisa Demo Inc., 101 Commerce Drive, Tinton Falls:

1. Bids for collection using rear-compacting trucks, which are used now, for once a week summer pick-up:

First year, $511,200, increasing to $568,000 in fifth year, for a total of $2,698,000 for the five-year contract

2. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks with twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $537,200, increasing to $600,400 in fifth year, for a total of $2,844,000 for the five years.

No bids for weekly or twice weekly collection using either borough-owned or contractor-owned robo cans.

Future Sanitation Inc., 385 Cranberry Rd., Farmingdale:

1. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks with weekly summer collection:

First year, $569,000 increasing to $599,000, with a total of $2,905,000 for five years.

No bids on robo can options.

2. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks with twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $669,000, increasing to $685,000, with a total of $3,377,000 for five years.

No bids on robo can options.

Republic Services of NJ, 1861 Wayside Rd., Tinton Falls:

1. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks with weekly summer collection:

First year, $584,819, increasing to $645,532, for a total of $3,074,005.

2. Bid for collection using borough-owned robo cans with weekly summer collection:

First year, $533,123, increasing to $588,468, for a total of $2,802,271 for the five years.

3. Bid using contractor-owned robo cans with weekly summer collection:

First year, $652,874, increasing to $720,650 in the fifth year, for a total of $3,431,781.

4. Bid for twice-weekly summer collection using rear-compacting trucks:

First year, $653,777, increasing to $721,647 in fifth year, for a total of $3,436,466 for the five years.

5. Bid for borough robo cans with twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $620,212, increasing to $684,598 in the fifth year, with a total of $3,260,037 for the five years.

6. Bid for contractor-owned robo cans with twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $743,591, increasing to $820,785 for the five years, with a total of $3,908,558.

Waste Management of NJ, 107 Silvia St., Ewing:

1. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks with weekly summer collection:

First year, $596,724, increasing to $652,920 in fifth year, for a total of $3,122,712 for five years. 

2. Bid for collection using borough robo cans with weekly summer collection:

First year, $545,244, increasing to $602,4448 in the fifth year, for a total of $2,867,796. 

3. Bid for collection using contractor-owned robo cans with weekly summer collection:

First year, $608,772, increasing to $3,185,436 for the five years.

4. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks with twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $681,960, increasing to $738,156 in fifth year, for a total of $3,548,892

5. Bid for collection using borough robo cans with twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $630,480, increasing to $687,684, for a total of $3,293,976.

6. Bid for collection using contractor-owned robo cans with twice weekly summer collection:

First year, $694,008, increasing to $751,212, for a total of $3,611,616 for five years.

First year: $201,000 increasing to $217,000 in the fifth year, for a total of $1,045,000 for the five years.

2. Bid for collection using borough-issued robo-cans:

First year: $248,000, increasing to $279,000 in fifth year, for a total of $1,316,000

3. Bid for collection using robo-cans owned by hauler: no bid on first 4 years. Fifth year is $1,878,000.

Waste Management of NJ, 107 Silvia St., Ewing:

1. Bid for collection using rear-compacting trucks, which are used now:

First year, $351,084 increasing to $379,992 in fifth year, for a total of $1,826,988 for five years.

2. Bid for collection using borough-issued robo-cans:

First year, $322,020 increasing for $348,576 in fifth year, for a total of $1,675,836 for the five years.
