Low Turnout in Uncontested Boro, Beach Municipal Races

November elections will be contested

Voter turnout was predictably low in Point Borough and Point Beach where the primaries for two Borough Council seats in each town were uncontested.

In Point Borough, newcomer Republican Joseph Furmato Jr. got 562 votes, while his running mate, incumbent Bob Sabosik, got 579.

In Point Beach, former Republican Mayor Tom Vogel, who is no longer on council, got 225 votes while his running mate, newcomer Republican Tom Toohey, got 243.

On the Democratic ticket in Point Beach, Tom Davis got 65 votes, while incumbent Mike Corbally got 63. Davis ran unsuccessfully last year as an Independent.

This year, there were no Independent candidates in either town who filed by Tuesday's deadline to run in the November general election, according to the Ocean County Clerk's office.

On Tuesday night, the county clerk's office experienced a technical problem that delayed the release of the complete results. But all races in the county are posted now on the clerk's website.
