More Bridge Closures on the Way

One westbound lane closed Tuesday; entire bridge closed Wednesday night

There will be a partial closure of the Route 88 bridge on Tuesday and a full closure overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.

The right, westbound travel lane over the Route 88 bridge will be closed on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to around 3 p.m. for routine maintenance of the electrical room on the bridge, according to the state Department of Transportation (DOT).

That work will take only one day and the other three lanes will not be impacted.

The DOT will close the bridge to traffic from 10 p.m. Wednesday until about 5 a.m. Thursday to allow for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform necessary underwater work in the Canal at this location, according to the DOT.

This is the third such closure of the bridge in the past two weeks.

The DOT will utilize variable message signs on Route 88 to alert motorists of the bridge closures and detour. The following detours will be in place during the closures:

•        Route 88 eastbound motorists will take Beaver Dam Road (CR 630) to Bridge Avenue east over the Lovelandtown Bridge to Bay Avenue to Route 88 eastbound.

•        Route 88 westbound motorists will take Bay Avenue to Bridge Avenue west over the Lovelandtown Bridge to Beaver Dam Road to Route 88 westbound.

The work is being done under a DOT regional Highway Occupancy Permit and further overnight closures are possible.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
