Point Boro Adopts Budget

Budget calls for a 2% increase in municipal tax rate.

Point Pleasant has adopted the full $19,461,232 municipal budget, with only one Council person - Chris Leitner - voting against it.

The budget, calls for a $13,442,894 tax levy, which will translate to a 2% increase or 8 tenths of a penny increase in the municipal tax rate.

Initially, the state Division of Local Government Services held up adoption of the budget partially because it wanted the Boro to send paperwork showing that FEMA had pledged to grant the Boro $1.3 million.

However, the same state division recently changed its mind, noting that there is no schedule yet for when those grant payments will be received, Boro Business Administrator David Maffei recently explained

The FEMA grant of $1.3 million is to reimburse the Boro for 90 percent of what it spent on cleaning up public property and debris put curbside by residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, including road debris, labor costs, overtime, hiring temporary employees and a disposal company and paying tipping fees.
