Point Boro Dems Keep an Incumbent, but Lose Majority

Chris Leitner wins, but GOP brings in a newcomer and gains narrow majority

Democratic Councilman Chris Leitner and GOP newcomer John R. Wisniewski won two, three-year Borough Council seats.

The Republicans have regained their majority on council.

Leitner, Donna Drive, and newcomer Democrat Brian Welch, Passaic Avenue, were challenged by GOP newcomers Lynn Faugno, Crestview Terrace, and Wisniewski, Rosewood Avenue.

The results, according to Ocean County elections officials, are: Leitner, 2,039; Wisniewski, 2,027; Faugno, 2,001 and Welch, 1,865.

Candidates could not immediately be reached for comment.

There were 14 write-in votes, with a total of 7,946 votes cast, according to county results.

Leitner, John McHugh Jr., Chris Goss and Mayor William Schroeder currently make up the narrow Democratic majority.

Republican council members are Toni DePaola, Robert Sabosik and Mitch Remig.

The results are similar to last year's when Schroeder won as mayor, in that voters decided to put in one Democrat and one Republican.

Democrat Goss won with 3,229, but Democrat Robert G. Rusk lost with 3,187 votes. Republican Sabosik was the top vote getter with 3,295 votes. Republican Albert N.
