Singer Wins GOP State Senate Primary In Landslide

Longtime Republican Senator Robert Singer will be the GOP nominee for the 30th District after handily defeating challenger Harold Herskowitz in Tuesday’s primary election.

The 30th district includes Point Pleasant Borough.

Singer, in the unofficial Monmouth County results, received 3,838 votes to Herskowitz’s 425. That's roughly 90 percent to 10 percent in favor of Singer. The tallies are preliminary.

Singer, was first elected to the state Legislature in 1993. He currently chairs the Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens and the Higher Education committees.

“It’s a good night,’’ Singer said in a telephone interview Tuesday night. “I think when someone runs a campaign without talking about the issues and just launches personal attacks – personal attacks on my family and things like that, you know, people see through that.’’

Singer said his passion for issues like education, transportation and Sandy recovery showed through and people responded to that.

“I’m humbled that the people of Monmouth and Ocean counties picked me to run to represent them in the 30th district,’’  he said.

Singer raised $210,313.70 for the primary campaign and spent $183,736.54, according to the latest campaign finance reports filed with the state Election Law Enforcement Commission, which oversees political campaigns.

The 30th District includes most of the Shore Area, stretching along the shoreline from Avon-by-the-Sea to Point Pleasant. It also includes Wall, Howell and Lakewood, from where both men hail.
