Anti-Bullying Workshop at Point Boro High School Thurs. Night

Speaker to talk about new bullying law and how community can battle bullying

Local parents are encouraged to attend an informational seminar about how  the community can battle bullying at the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Paula Rodriguez-Rust, Ph.D., will discuss the and how parents and the school community can help prevent bullying and cyber-bullying.

The new legislation was signed by Gov. Christie in January and goes into effect this week.

According to spectrumdiversity.org, Rodriguez-Rust served on the New Jersey Special Task Force on Bullying and Cyberbullying Awareness and Prevention, is active in the New Jersey Coalition for Bullying Awareness and Prevention, and serves on the Board of the Central New Jersey Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

Her professional memberships include the Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) and the International Academy of Sex Research (IASR).

Dr. Rodríguez Rust is also on the Editorial Board of the Archives of Sexual Behavior, and has served on the Editorial Boards of Social Problems and Gender & Society, and on Institutional Review and Harassment Grievance Boards. She is known internationally for her original survey-based research on gender and sexual orientation.

A school district flier publicizing the event says, "Help promote acceptance and respect in our schools."

On Wednesday night, a robo-call telephone system dialed parents all over the borough with a message encouraging local parents to attend the seminar. Schools Superintendent Vincent Smith's recorded message mentioned the name of the speaker and the purpose of the seminar.
