Eat at Simko's to Help Point Beach H.S. Seniors

Eat at Simko's in Brielle Tuesday or Wednesday to help raise money for Project Graduation, an alcohol-free event to be held at the Atlantic Club in Wall after the Point Beach High School graduation on June 19.

Eat in or take out, lunch or dinner, with 20 percent of the bill donated to help pay for Project Graduation.

The volunteers in charge of Project Graduation ask that those visiting Simko's on Higgins Avenue bring the promotional event flier with them so the proceeds will go to Project Graduation. For more information, and to print out the flier, see attached PDF.

The Project Graduation Committee is also disseminating the following information to help explain the benefits of Project Graduation and why it deserves support from the greater Point Beach community, not only those who are parents of Point Beach High School seniors:

"Why Bother?

One of the highest risk nights for teens to use drugs or alcohol is graduation. Teens attend parties throughout the year but peer pressure is highest on graduation night. Many young adults feel as if they haven’t really celebrated if they haven’t been drinking or using drugs.

Some parents even condone drinking at parties by minors, stating that since they will probably drink anyway, why not provide students a place, take their keys and watch over them?

Unfortunately, the role models our youth have - TV, movies, magazines, and even some parents - all seem to send the same message: Alcohol and/or drugs are needed to celebrate an important event. 

It’s not enough to tell our children, 'Just say no!' We must give them an alternative to which they can say 'yes.' Project Graduation provides a drug- and alcohol-free party for this important night.

Project Graduation is a chance to give our graduates a wonderful memory, build a tradition, keep them alive. It will ensure the parents and all who know and love these young adults that they will arrive home safe and sound the morning after graduation. 

Project Graduation is succeeding because of the commitment of parents, the school, local government, service and civic groups, and of course the students. Also, the support of our local business has been outstanding and greatly appreciated.

Students like celebrating all night with their friends and this drug- and alcohol-free party is becoming the way to celebrate one of life’s great events - “High School Graduation.”

Students:

• No one has to make a decision to use drugs or alcohol.
• No one has to drive or drive with someone who has been drinking or drugging.
• Everyone will go home with a prize and great memories.
• Graduates will realize it is possible to celebrate without alcohol or drugs.
• This will truly be a night to remember.

Parents:

• Will know their children will not be using drugs or alcohol.
• Will sleep well knowing their children will not be driving or driving with someone who has been drinking or using drugs.
• Know where their graduates are.
• Know their children are having a great time and are well supervised.
• Participate in the planning and help pass on this new tradition.
• Realize many people in the community are concerned with the use of drugs and alcohol by our youth.
• Realize it is possible for young adults to celebrate without drugs or alcohol.
