Golf Fundraiser for Point Pleasant Borough Athletic Boosters to be Held May 1

The Point Pleasant Borough Athletic Boosters organization is holding a golf tournament fundraiser on May 1 at Cruz Golf Country Club in Farmingdale.

The event is unique in that it offers students a chance to play with adults since there are two divisions: one for adult foursomes and the other for student-adult foursomes.

Students from middle school through college pay $75 each and adults pay $125 each.

The price includes golf at Cruz Golf Country Club, all beverages, including alcohol and non-alcoholic, lunch, snacks and dinner. It also includes a goodie bag with a choice of a Panther Nation shirt or hat.

Lunch, registration and putting contest start at 11:30 a.m., with tee-off at 12:30 p.m. The event features a shot gun start with a scramble format.

Lunch is subs and salads from Jersey Mikes and US Subs and dinner is by Jersey Shore BBQ.

Dinner and awards are at 5 p.m.

The Athletic Boosters club, currently led by director Rick McGarry, has been running the golf tournament for 17 years as the primary means to fund scholarships and athletic programs throughout the year.

The organization has usually given out between $13-$18,000 worth of scholarships each year for the past 10 years, McGarry said.

Last year 25 student athletes received a $500 award each, he said.

The organization also provides a varsity and sub-varsity banquet each season for all girls and boys teams, along with meal money for state games, MVP awards, stipend rewards for winning championships and shirts for high schools programs.
