Jenkinson's and Martell's Donate $20,000 for New Lights for Football Field at Antrim School

Donation paid to Point Pleasant Beach Education Foundation which has ordered new lights

The football field behind G. Harold Antrim Elementary School will have new lights, thanks to a $20,000 donation made by Jenkinson's and Martell's.

The donation was made to the Point Pleasant Beach Education Foundation for four light poles to replace eight poles that came down in a June windstorm, said Scott Kuzmic, foundation president.

Representatives of the boardwalk companies, including Frank, Anthony and Anthony Storino, owners of Jenkinson's, and Scott Bassinder, owner of Martell's, gave a giant check to Kuzmic at the football field on Wednesday afternoon.

"We asked the community for help and the businesses that have helped us before stepped up and helped," Kuzmic said. "Jenkinson's and Martell's have always been good to us."

Kuzmic said the new lights and poles have been ordered and will hopefully be installed between Aug. 26 and Sept. 8, just in time for the football team's first home game on the evening of Sept. 9.

When asked what prompted the idea for the donation, Bassinder said, "We try to do anything to help the town."

Anthony Storino (Frank's brother) said he and other members of his family have had their children go through the local public schools.

Marilou Halvorsen, Jenkinson's marketing director, said, "This school is a cornerstone of the community. This is an important contribution to enhance the lives of all of the residents. Jenkinson's and Martell's have contributed to nearly every organization in town. They're always willing to help out and contribute."

Martell's had also recently donated $3,000 for tuition for the children of volunteers in the Point Beach summer recreation program to attend the program.
