March 8 is Deadline to File to Run for School Board

Two seats up in Point Pleasant Borough and one in Point Pleasant Beach

March 8 is the deadline for citizens to file nominating petitions for local school board candidacies in the 2011 school election. 

There are two, three-year seats up for grabs in Point Pleasant Borough, now held by Regina Foley and John MacDermant, board president.

And there is one, three-year seat in Point Pleasant Beach now held by Phyllis Thomson.

Both districts have packets available for those interested in running.

More than 1,500 local school board positions will be on the ballot statewide during this year’s election, scheduled for April 27.

At that time, residents also will vote on school budgets.

The webpage includes a downloadable nominating petition, as well as information about the role of the local school board in the education process, the New Jersey School Ethics Act and campaign finance reporting requirements.

April 5 is the deadline to register to vote in the Board of Education election.

To register in New Jersey, you must be:
- a United States citizen
- 18 years of age by the next election
- a resident of the county for 30 days prior to the election

You are not eligible to register to vote if you are serving a sentence or on parole or probation, as a result of a conviction of an indictable offense under state or federal law and have been judged mentally incompetent.

Applications for registration can be obtained from the Division of Elections, the Commissioners of Registration office in the county where you live or from your local Municipal Clerk.

Registration forms are also available in various state agencies and at Division of Motor Vehicle offices and can be obtained while transacting agency business.

In addition, this form can be used for name and address changes. The Commissioner of Registration cannot accept faxed copies or an electronic transmission of a voter registration form since an original signature is required.
