Point Beach Schools Closed Mon. and Tues.

St. Peter's closed until Nov. 12

Point Beach public schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, according to District Business Administrator Brian Savage.

"We will make a determination with regard to the rest of the week by Tuesday evening," Savage said in a text Saturday morning.

"If we are able to open later in the week the calendar will be adjusted to add Thursday and Friday as school days along with Wednesday if possible."

When Savage referred to the coming Thursday and Friday, he is referencing the fact that the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) cancelled its annual teachers' convention in Atlantic City that had been scheduled for those two days.

All public schools, and many non-public schools, in New Jersey had been scheduled to be closed on those two days, as has been the practice in prior years.

However, now that the convention is cancelled, many school districts are contemplating having school in session those two days to make up time for last week when many, if not all, districts were closed in the wake of Sandy.

However, the Point Beach district has not made a decision yet on that. When more information becomes available, Patch will post updates.

St. Peter School in Point Beach is announcing on its website that it is closed until Nov. 12 and that its annual craft fair that had been scheduled for Nov. 9 and 10 is cancelled.

Regarding Point Borough public schools, as of Friday night no decision had been made yet whether schools would open Monday. Patch is trying to reach district officials to get an update and will post as soon as information is confirmed by an official source.
