Point Beach Schools Move Election to November

The Point Beach Board of Education voted unanimously at its Tuesday night meeting to move its election to November, as allowed by a new state law.

Board Member Michael Spader was absent from the meeting. The five remaining board members voted unanimously at the meeting at , said Schools Business Administrator Brian Savage.

He said there was little board discussion and no public comment on the matter.

The decision means the public will be able to vote for board members in the November general election. However, the school district will not have to put the school district tax levy up for a vote unless the levy is more than a 2 percent increase from last year's, as per the law signed by Gov. Christie on Jan. 17.

Many other districts across the state have either taken the same vote or are considering it.

The new law states that either a school board or municipality can vote to make the switch from April to November elections, or voters can petition the municipality for a referendum to make the change.
