Point Pleasant Beach School Tax Levy Passes 550 to 303

Beth Keefe wins as uncontested candidate for one board seat

The Point Pleasant Beach school tax levy passed by a vote of 550 yes to 303 no, said Schools Business Administrator Brian Savage on Wednesday night.

There were 853 residents voting on the budget question.

Beth Keefe ran uncontested for one, three-year board seat. She received 545 votes, Savage said. There were 43 write-in votes for various residents.

Phylllis Thomson had decided not to run for re-election to that seat.

If the tax levy had failed, the Borough Council would have had the option to cut it or leave it intact.

The  Point Pleasant Beach school tax levy of $10.6 million would raise taxes on the average assessed home by $59 per year.

Owners of homes assessed at $691,281,the average assessment in Point Pleasant Beach, would pay an additional $59 in school taxes, or $3,144 annually, according to thedistrict website.

The proposed Beach school budget calls for the current school tax rate of 44.64 cents per $100 assessed valuation to increase by .85 cents to 45.49 cents per $100 assessed valuation.
