High School seniors Alex Kristensen and Lucas Stegman are this year's Commended Students in the borough in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Every September the National Merit Scholarship Program issues Letters of Commendation to approximately 34,000 students in recognition of their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

“The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students who score among the top five percent of the more than 1.5 million students taking the PSAT,” said Point Borough High School Principal Linda Rocco. “Earning commendation in this extremely competitive program speaks volumes about the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by Alex and Lucas.”

Rocco personally congratulated Alex and Lucas at a special presentation on Sept. 29, when she and Director of Guidance Ed McNeil presented the students with a framed Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

“And as the latest Commended Students from Point Pleasant Borough Schools, Alex and Lucas join a distinguished group of Borough High School alumni as representatives of our district in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The entire district shares my pride in the achievement of these two young men.”

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC.

“These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation," the spokesperson said. "We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
