Battle of the Bands Rocks Point Beach Sat. for Project Graduation

All proceeds benefit the alcohol-free, post-graduation party

"The Beach Battle of the Bands" will be held Saturday to raise money for 's Project Graduation.

Organizers of the event are urging the community to attend to raise money for the post-graduation, alcohol-free party, which they hope to have for the graduates at the Atlantic Club in Wall after the June 14 graduation.

Although Project Graduation is for Point Beach High School graduates, it is not sponsored or paid for by the high school or the school district, so private donations are crucial to make it happen, organizers have said.

Eight bands, consisting of musicians in their teens to mid 20s, from all over New Jersey, will compete for incredible prizes on Saturday.

There will be six celebrity judges and Maria Mar of WRAT radio's Jersey Rock Show will be the emcee.

Dr. DiPasquale's Backstage Entertainment will be the DJ to keep the music going during band change-overs and Antrim's own Junior Rockers, Vin~TAZE, will perform.

Two of the competing bands represent Point Pleasant Beach: Oceanfloors includes guitarist and current senior Cody Nierstedt and the Rodrigos include Mark Fabian, Austin Mercuri, Zack Spader and Dylan Spader.

"Many Point Beach students, moms and dads are working very hard behind the scenes, volunteering their time and talents to put together this huge event. Please attend and show your support!" says a prepared statement from parents organizing the event.

Tickets purchased in advance from Ocean County Music, 619 Arnold Avenue, or the Antrim or High School Main Office, cost $10 each. Today is the last day for pre-sale tickets.

Remaining tickets will be $15 at the door tomorrow night.

VIP seats in front of the stage are available with pre-sale purchase only, cost $25 each and are just about sold out.

For more information on ticket sales, contact Gail Coulter: coult40@comcast.net or (732) 674-2858.

Besides audience giveaways, including Bamboozle tickets, a ticket stub is worth $1 off a Hoffman's Ice Cream purchase the day of the event.

Event T-shirts are $10 each. Contact one of the organizers, so that you have your shirt to wear to the show.

Refreshments will be sold for a $1 each at the event.

If you cannot attend and still wish to contribute, or can contribute beyond the admission price, contact organizers about donating.

"All donations benefit Project Graduation, a drug and alcohol free party which keeps kids safe and off the roads during that emotion-filled, live-in-the-moment night of graduation," the statement says.

Any drink or food donation drop-offs or pick-ups can be arranged through Laurie Clayton: claytombs@netzero.com or (732) 892-4667.
