Ed Jarrett knocks down The Sandy Castle

We knew this day was coming and it wasn't easy for sculptor Ed Jarrett to start to dismantle his masterpiece, the giant 30+ foot tall sandcastle on Jenkinsons Beach known as The Sandy Castle... This piece of art took thousands of volunteers many months to pack the forms with sand so Ed Jarrett can start his work in attempt to break his own Guinness Book world record... Due to some circumstances beyond his control the castle suffered from vibrations from construction and lost 14 feet off the top which brought him below his intended height to beat the record... Nonetheless Ed continued to make the best of it and sculpted the masterpiece we have come to know and love as The Sandy Castle..

This is not the end of the story, Ed soon after had made the decision and vowed to do a second castle and again attempt to break his world record while here at the Jersey Shore... This is why on Tuesday (9/24/13) Ed took his ladder and went up to the top of the castle and started the process of taking the castle down from the top so the volunteers for the new castle will have sand to pack in the forms that are already in place right next to the old castle... All the forms are still in tact from the first castle so all we need to do is put them where they need to go and start filling them with sand and wet the layers with water as you go to pack the sand nicely...

Ed and the volunteers are already on their third tier of forms for the new castle but more volunteers are still needed everyday... Ed hopes to have this new castle done by the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy but he needs more volunteers to make this happen... You can find out more info at TallestSandCastle.com and there is a volunteer link at the top of the page

Keep an eye out for The Sandy Castle Second Edition coming soon!
