Point Boro's Haycook Honored for Stellar Freshman Season

She scored 16 goals as La Salle reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history

Kelsey Haycook has picked up right where she left off.

Haycook, who was an All-State soccer star during her career at Point Pleasant Boro High School, has earned a quartet of post-season honors after her freshman soccer season at La Salle University.

The freshman, who was named to the Atlantic 10’s pre-season, all-rookie team, has lived up to that honor, finishing her freshman campaign with 16 goals, setting the La Salle single-season scoring record for a freshman and finishing one shy of the all-time single season record of 17 goals set by Lisa McDermott in 1987.

Of those goals, four were game-winners. Haycook had the game-tying goal in a tie with Rhode Island and also had four assists as La Salle earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in its history.

For her efforts, Haycook has been named to Soccer America’s All-Freshman first team, which was announced Thursday. She is the only player from the Atlantic 10 to be named to the all-rookie team.
