U.S. Soccer Star Films Free Kids Instructional Videos

Former Point Borough resident and U.S. women's soccer captain has teamed up with Jersey Mike's Subs to provide a series of free instructional videos for kids on the sub chain's website, according to a company release. 

The first in a series of ten instructional videos is live on the Jersey Mike's website and each week a new video will be posted leading up to Rampone's appearance at the summer games in London, the release says.

Rampone, a Point Borough High School graduate, current Manasquan resident and captain of the the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, is the sub chain's first spokesperson in its 56-year history, the release says. 

The series will feature Rampone, a mother of two, teaching important soccer skills including dribbling, shooting and shielding, the release says.  

To view the free videos, customers can scan a QR code in the restaurants or visit the Jersey Mike’s web site.

Rampone will also be featured on a special 24-ounce reusable plastic cup, known as the “Christie Cup.” For the regular combo price, customers will get a free cup and two extra ounces of a chosen drink, the release says. 

“I grew up on Jersey Mike’s subs at the Shore, eating them before and after practice,” Rampone said in the release.  “Now my kids are enjoying them – it’s a meal I can feel good about as a mom.”

Rampone, known for her athleticism, intelligence and leadership, is the only mother on the U.S. team but remains its fastest and most durable player, the release says. 

She is also the world's most decorated player, with honors that include a World Cup Championship and two Olympic Gold Medals, the release says.

Rampone and her team will compete in the Summer Olympics this year in London. She has said this will be her last Olympics and that she will leave international play to spend more time at home with her husband and two young daughters.

“Christie is an excellent role model, who shares the same values related to excellence, perseverance and giving back to the community as we have at Jersey Mike’s,” Jersey Mike's Founder and CEO Peter Cancro said in the release.

“Through football at Point Pleasant Beach High, I knew Christie’s grandfather. She has strong Jersey Shore roots and she grew up on Jersey Mike’s Subs -- I can't imagine a better partner to represent the Jersey Mike's brand.”

Jersey Mike’s is hoping to appeal to busy parents, shuttling children from school to sports practices and other activities, who are looking for fast, healthy meal options, the release says.
