Fundraisers are the organization's only way to raise money to help families with medical bills and other expenses incurred by caring for seriously ill children, according to the web site.

A  sold-out fundraiser for the Carmie Brady Foundation at Crystal Point Yacht Club raised about $20,000 on Jan. 28, said Joseph Stevens Sr., owner of Gerard's Wine & Spirits, on Monday morning. The Bridge Avenue liquor store ran the fundraiser.

Brady was a Point Pleasant Borough resident who died from cancer after a long struggle. She was known for helping others going through the same struggle and her family has maintained the foundation to carry on her legacy.

Foundation funds also help families defray the costs of traveling to doctor appointments and hospitals and, in some cases, the costs of lodging near specialized hospitals providing cancer treatment.
