What do Naked Apes and lobsters have in common?

Naked Apes is a band.

"And they're really good and have quite a following," said Fire Lt. Ira Waldman of Fire Company #2.

The lobsters are not a band, but they will be live. At first. That's until they get cooked for guests.

"We'll have them in a tank," Waldman said. "You can point out which one you want, we'll cook it, and you can have at it."

There will also be burgers, hot dogs, corn, cole slow, soda and water, but no alcohol, he said.

Specific prices are still to be determined, but will be posted for guests when the event begins.

Also, the fire company will allow those heading to the Festival of the Sea, running from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Arnold and Bay avenues, to park in their parking lot for $10 per car.

The parking revenue will be used to help the volunteer fire company run its Junior Explorer program for those 16 and younger, Waldman said.

The fire department provides the Junior Explorers with fire gear, educates them about what firefighters do and takes them on trips.

It's a way to start providing a fire house orientation, as well as a lot of fun, to those who are nearly old enough to start serving as volunteer firefighters, he said.

The revenue from the cook-out will help the fire house meet expenses, including those for maintaining the fire house on Laurel, which it owns. The municipality owns the fire rigs and gear.
