Week Ahead: Downtown Clean-up, Senate Primary and Dune Planning

Movie Night and Frozen Yogurt fundraiser also coming up

A volunteer clean-up effort in the Point Beach downtown, the US Senate special primary election, a meeting about how to build up dunes, a puppet show and more are coming up this week in Point Borough and Point Beach.

The Point Pleasant Beach Environmental Commission and Beautification Committee are seeking business owners and volunteers to participate for up to a few hours during the evening on Monday to remove weeds from selected locations throughout the Arnold Avenue Downtown Business District, according to the I Love Point Pleasant Beach Facebook page.

Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, tools and garbage bags and meet at 6 p.m. Mon. at the Public Parking Lot at Cramer Road and Arnold Avenue. Volunteers will target various areas throughout town, primarily along the sidewalks, at sign posts, lampposts and around street trees. No rain date has been set.

The special primary for a US Senate seat will be held from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and sample ballots have been mailed out to registered voters. Candidates in the Democratic primary are: Rush Holt, Frank Pallone, Cory Booker and Sheila Oliver. In the Republican primary, the candidates are: Alieta Eck and Steven Lonegan. The Point Pleasant Beach Council will host a public informational meeting with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection regarding the Army Corp Dune Easement Replenishment program at 7 p.m. Wed. at the G. Harold Antrim School Auditorium on Niblick Street in Point Pleasant Beach. No action will be taken by the Governing Body members. All Point Pleasant Beach residents/taxpayers are invited to attend.

A "Wings of Magic" puppet show for children will be held at 7 p.m. Wed. at Community Park, Bridge Avenue and Beaver Dam Road, Point Borough. For more information, please see the Patch Event listing.

On Friday, residents can enjoy a frozen yogurt treat and help the Point Borough High School band at the same time. The fundraiser is being held all day and evening at Freezing Point, 3100 Bridge Ave., Point Borough.
