Free Concert This Weekend At Community Park

Hector, a Garden State native, has been named "Best Guitarist" and his band has been recognized as the "Best Blues Band" at the Asbury Park Music Awards.

A free concert featuring the Billy Hector blues band and Funbox at Community Park, Beaver Dam Road and Bridge Avenue, is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Sat., Aug. 24.

Funbox is expected to start at about 5 p.m., with Hector following at about 6 p.m.

"Funbox will be sure to get everyone in the groove with their blend of funky jazz, before New Jersey legend guitarist Hector and his band hit the stage," says a prepared statement from Point Borough.

Hector, a Garden State native, has been named “Best Guitarist” and his band has been recognized as the “Best Blues Band” at the Asbury Park Music Awards. He was also honored by being named a “Living Legend” at the award show.

According to his website, www.billyhector.com, Hector is a two-time winner of the East Coast Rocker’s “Best Guitarist” award and a two-time invitee to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s American Music Masters Series – celebrating the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Muddy Waters, among others. Hector is also a recipient of the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation’s “Lifetime Achievement” award. 

In addition to touring with his own band and being a featured guitarist for others, Hector has pumped out 14 albums, primarily on the label Ghetto Surf, during his three decade plus career.
