WOW, no Point Pleasant, what a surprise!
ED April 23, 2014 at 04:19 pm
Would Point Pleasant even be a contender? I wouldn't think so. This is US NEWS and World Reports.
Art Penrose April 23, 2014 at 11:49 pm
The taxpayers in Point Pleasant Boro are ONLY paying a $Million Dollars a week in school taxes whileRead More school is in session. (sarcasm intended) That is ONLY $14,000 per year, per student. (major sarcasm intended) You want to be listed in the top 20? That will cost you more!! And more!!! And more!!!!

The Pilgrims left England because of religious persecution but they did not come here, they went toRead More Holland were there was tolerance. But, lo and behold, the Dutch also had tolerance for Jews and the Pilgrims could not tolerate that. Then they came over here. And, if you recall they burned 'witches' at the stake. Wonderful tolerant Pilgrims. If you believe Pilgrims came here to avoid persecution I'll bet you believe George Washington chopped down a cherry tree.

God is shaking her head at all this intolerance. I'll bet she's on Prozac right now
Tom Abbott April 24, 2014 at 01:57 am
Though not certain, it seems you are conflating the Pilgrims and the Puritans who were distinctRead More groups. If you are referring to the Salem witch trials that would be the Puritans. I don't recall any references to Pilgrims either burning witches or leaving Holland because of the Jews. I'm curious whether you have sources for that.

I see this 'Palanchi' character can dish it out; but when confronted with facts, has nothing tooRead More say...It's all about me and my opinion. . .as that old song goes: E-I-E-I-O, And on his farm he had a pig, With an oink-oink here, And an oink-oink there, Everywhere an oink-oink...

Political correctness is used by liberals to further their own socialist/ communist agenda and notRead More teach things accurately. Teaching children that America is bad, that the USA flag is offensive, that religion is a myth, that social justice is real and should be administered. Talking about white privilege and lies about our founding fathers and the birth of our country. Text books have been re written to be inclusive at the expense of accuracy. The classroom is being used to further teachers political agendas while less and less time is focused on the basics. P/C is liberal brainwashing anywhere it is. Chicago is a perfect example of a failed society under liberals.
Brian Hurrel April 23, 2014 at 08:44 pm
Please provide a specific example of teaching children that America is bad, that the USA flag isRead More offensive, that religion is a myth, that social justice is real and should be administered, white privilege and lies about our founding fathers and the birth of our country. School. Curriculum. Texts used. Specific quotes from the lesson.

"Every musical"? Except the classes of 1966, 1967, and 1968!
Kimberly Kearns April 21, 2014 at 04:23 pm
The shows performed in those years did not meet the criteria of the shows being represented in theRead More hall of the performing arts wing. The shows being represented are Broadway musicals performed in the Spring, not themed choral productions performed in December and such.
I plead the 2nd tchk tchk April 22, 2014 at 04:12 pm
Marie, why are you conditioned to think that someone that needs pay more taxes because they have aRead More larger house? Why do you think that is fair? Why do you think that if someone spends money keeping their house nice, they need to be penalized with higher taxes? Shouldn't someone should be allowed to keep their house nice? So according to you, it is fair if I buy a house and let the paint go and let the place degenerate and I can have my taxes lowered. you are brilliant.
John Santaella April 22, 2014 at 04:16 pm
I plead the 2nd tchk tchk it doesn't work that way. Ask your town assessor about that.
Marie Intili April 22, 2014 at 05:49 pm
I didnt say you have to pay more taxes if you have a bigger house! Or a nicer house...you areRead More taking my words out of context! A two family home that is zoned for two families should only have two families living in it! Not 10 families! Thats all I said...I said nothing about letting your paint go or getting penelized with a higher tax because of size.....only what its zoned for!

That is why most colleges award Merit Money based upon SAT scores.

If this is true my dog could probably be eligible if he went through the Brick school system.

Schools in general is nothing but fakes. Not even close to accurate. To many reasons to list. YouRead More have to many dishonest people involved in the outcome in changes that shouldn't be. Yes, schools play to make it look one way that is not even close to what it should be. They rig the outcome to make their school look good for certain students who they might have a connection with in some way. You can have students who rank higher in lower level classes that are not even close in comparison that has no business being 2 or 3 in a class.

Hey Joe-90% tax rate existed with a number of signifigant loopholes that resulted in a nominal taxRead More rate in the mid 40s for the highest earners...stop getting your talking points from MSNBC and think for yourself. and even if you took every dollar from the top 10% of earners in this nation, we would still have a deficit...spending is the issue, not revenue....do you get that fact or does your hatred for the wealthy cloud your ability to digest reality...
Joe R March 15, 2014 at 08:51 am
Hey SH, in the 1950s, the top marginal tax rate was 91% and the effective tax rate was about 51%Read More after the loopholes. Oh, so we don't have loopholes today??!? Ha, ha, ha. The current top marginal tax rate is 39.6% but that's before all the loopholes. The effective tax rate is even lower than 39.6%. JFK eliminated many of the loopholes and reduced the top marginal tax rate to 74%. That works for me.
SH Resident March 15, 2014 at 07:02 pm
Joe-I will agree to raise the marginal tax rate to 50%...what programs other than defense do youRead More propose to cut? Exactly none is probably your answer...cutting defense and raising taxes does not get us to a balanced budget...we need to cut spending...you socialists never seem to get that point...and moreover, how about EVERYONE has some skin in the game and has to pay some income tax.... you will never want to cut spending on social programs because then how will you bribe low information voters to win elections?

I completely misread Jen's post. So, for the record, I stand corrected and regret doing so.Read More Sheila, unfortunately, I don't have children, and am able to freely make vacation plans. As for our education system, I'm afraid it's appalling, but I pay my tax dollars in support, none the less.

I thought this was very funny. I even played it back for friends as we danced around the room. IRead More believe it is the quirky stuff in life that makes it all worth it. We all need a giggle every now and then and this passed dumb and went 180 degrees back to funny. If you want to see serious meet us in Washington DC March 16th 2014 for a mass protest against corruption when the mace and flashbangs start being thrown by police you will have a new respect for the little giggles in life. anonymous

Jim, Geez you are the one who can't be that ignorant yourself. You couldn't be more wrong and inRead More denial. Nothing jives with any of these tests. They compare SAT's and some schools average 1535 total and think that is good. I think that score is unacceptable. Just a little over what the state requires. The H.S. do little or just enough to get by. Just passing is good enough for them. You have schools who some considered top schools bragging how great they are getting average sat's at 1545. @Speedz..You are right on and I agree it is hard to figure out what makes sense versus real.

Here's what I measure when considering schools- and this applies directly to Montclair and allRead More districts- Has my child been taught to be an independent thinker, an active problem solver, willing to take on challenges, work as part of a team, and the confidence to work independently? Has my child met a teacher who has motivated him/her to be their best academic self and created a lifelong learner? That's how success is measured. Numbers/statistic can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted, and manipulated. The cold hard facts that your child has the attributes previously listed above is the true measure. That's done here in Montclair and other districts in New Jersey and beyond- or at least it was true before the core curriculum standards and the broads invaded.
ED April 12, 2014 at 11:54 am
esther, You have a few things right. Numbers/Statistics can be tugged, pulled, hidden, adjusted andRead More manipulated. By Who? The same people who are running the schools and handing in these reports. Everything in NJ is corrupted.
