UPDATE: Manchester Man Arrested in Long Branch Murder of Point Pleasant Man

Alan Bienkowski was charged in connection with Michael M. Wells' death.

Update, 12:58 p.m.: This story was updated with additional information from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. Authorities arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with the murder of a Point Pleasant man in Long Branch, according to Charles Webster, spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office (MCPO). Alan Bienkowski of Pinecrest Manor in Manchester faces felony murder, robbery and weapons charges, according to the MCPO. Michael M. Wells died of a gunshot wound in the backyard of a Cleveland Avenue home on April 10. Wells arrived at Dutch Prime Foods for work around 4:30 a.m. that day when Bienkowski allegedly confronted him and robbed him at gun point. During the course of the robbery Bienkowski shot and killed Wells, …

A two month-long investigation by a number of local law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrests of 10 people, plus the seizure of cars, cash and about 140 pounds of marijuana, authorities said. The culmination of "Operation Weed Whacker," which began in April and came to a close Tuesday, was announced Wednesday by Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato. Point Boro Office Building Broken Into Friday

Police investigating break-in at 2424 Bridge Ave.

  An office building at 2424 Bridge Ave., Point Borough, was broken into early Friday morning and police are investigating. Detective Lt. Adam Picca reported in a prepared statement that at about 3:10 a.m., officers responded to 2424 Bridge Ave. for an alarm activation to one of the interior offices.  When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that someone had forced entry into the main building "before forcing entry into numerous interior offices," the statement says. Police Release Sketch of Brick Stabbing Suspect

Cops: public should not approach suspect in stabbing, robbery case

Brick police have released a sketch of a man who is suspected of pulling a woman out of her car, then stabbing and robbing her Monday night. Police were called to 150 Brick Boulevard around 10 p.m. Monday, where they found a woman in her car who told them a man who appeared intoxicated had pulled her out of her vehicle, held a knife to her throat and eventually stabbed her in her side. The man robbed her of the contents of her pocketbook during the incident, she told police. Brick and other local police departments, including K-9 units and a State Police helicopter, searched for hours but could not find the man, who the victim said fled toward the area of Lions Head Office Park on foot. Brick police are continuing their search for a man who they say pulled a woman out of her car, held a knife to her throat and stabbed her while demanding the contents of her pocket book. The incident occurred Monday night at about 10 p.m. at 150 Brick Boulevard, said Sgt. Henry Drew. There, police found a woman in her car parked in the building's parking lot. "The victim had puncture wounds on her right side, several lacerations on her hand and a contusion on her head," said Drew. Speed limit changes would be possible for streets without sidewalks

A proposal before state legislators would allow neighborhood associations to seek out speed limits from 20 to 15 mph if the road has no sidewalks.   A Point Borough woman was charged with heroin possession and a contempt of court warrant in Wall, according to police. Samara Katz, 41, was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. May 9 on a contempt of court warrant after a motor vehicle stop on Atlantic Avenue in Wall and then charged with heroin possession, police said. The New Jersey State Police ranked second among state police agencies nationally in terms of Twitter followers, according to statistics recently released by the IACP Center for Social Media. The agency has 23,618 followers, trailing only the Massachusetts State Police, which had a whopping 62,493 followers, as of April 30. The Texas Department of Public Safety (18,787), the Ohio State Highway Patrol (13,587) and the Indiana State Police (13,466) round out the top five.
