Grenville Owners Tell Acting Gov. About FEMA Frustration

Other business owners and residents also ask for help

    Renee Typaldos thought sleeping on a mattress on the floor of her Sandy-ravaged restaurant, losing electricity, heat and all the food, and becoming ill from breathing in gas leaking from Sandy-ripped lines all over Bay Head would be enough to get some help from FEMA. She was wrong. A FEMA inspector visited her and Harry Typaldos, co-owners of the Historic Grenville Hotel and Restaurant, shortly after Sandy barreled through Bay Head, flooding the hotel's basement and shorting out the electrical and heating systems. Renee Typaldos was sleeping during those nights on a mattress in front of a fireplace in the main dining room of the restaurant. "That was the only way I could stay warm," she said. Could not agree more! It is amazing that these people have the nerve to complain when so many other businesses were destroyed and homeowners in the area were left with nothing. At least they had a warm place to sleep and have a business that is still running. Maybe if they had better morals, they wouldn't have to whine so much!   more ›

  Come to the Jersey Shore for Valentine's Day and then come back in the spring, summer and fall. That was the message from Acting Gov. Kim Guadagno who kicked off the state's "Show your Love for the Jersey Shore" campaign on Monday afternoon at Jenkinson's Aquarium on the boardwalk. "Come to the Jersey Shore for Valentine's Day, we're open for business," Guadagno said, standing at a podium just across from the penguins. She said it's crucial that the private-public marketing campaign effort, which is being done in conjunction with other marketing campaigns, gets the message out so the state's $38 billion tourism industry can again be robust.
